Update on Kate

Kate is doing well on her antibiotics and they have been able to take her off her IV (she is nursing really well), and she no longer has to be under the heat lamp, she is able to keep her temperature up on her own now! They have confirmed that she does have the group B strep and they are going to keep her on the antibiotics until at least Sunday. I have been discharged from the hosptial, but am able to stay in my hospital room for 2 more nights so I can be close to her and continue to nurse her. The doctors continue to watch her platelet count because her count has dropped in half since she was born, she is down to 29,000 and if she goes below 20,000 she will need to have a blood transfusion, an IVIG. A healthy count for newborns is 100,000 and above. It is hard to remember that she is so sick, because she looks so healthy, and you would not be able to tell anything is wrong by looking at her. She is a champ and is doing so well with all the tests they have given her. My platelet count has gone up to 196,000, so at least we don't have that to worry about!!! We love our little girl and are so grateful she is here. Thanks to all of you for your love and support, and for the prayers that have been offered on our behalf.
